Nothing good is coming up for Steve “Burn It All Down” Bannon these days. He got his ass handed to him by the Judge overseeing his contempt case today. Not only did he lose his bid to delay until October, he also lost his loony bin booby hatch play to drag members of Congress in to testify to his Q-Anon related conspiracy theories. What’s next is the DOJ getting a trial date in a week and wrapping up the case in a day, after which Bannon might actually be hauled away in cuffs to do his war room podcast from a DC jail cell.
U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols also denied Bannon’s bid to postpone for three months the jury trial set to open next Monday, rejecting defense arguments that such a delay was warranted due to intense media coverage around the ongoing House hearings on the Capitol siege. Bannon’s attorneys contended Trump’s sudden move to abandon executive privilege claims for Bannon should also spark a delay, but the judge rejected that as well.
Of course the real play here is that it’s just a misdemeanor case, and the jail time for it is no more than 6 months, and with time off for good behavior and various 2 for 1 and 3 for 1 time credits, he’ll probably do less than 2 months in jail. While there I am sure he will find ready and willing inmates to add to his digital army, because as many already know, Bannon is using the ABC method, “always be closing.”
