Legalizing “Bongs” Comes on Heels of Cannabis Decriminalization
MAY 8, 2015 – Maryland Governor Larry Hogan (R-MD) held a bill signing session today, which was to be held at a previous date but was postponed due to the state of emergency in Baltimore. The MD State Assembly was very busy this session, and enacted 3 very important things into law. First, Maryland gave back the right to vote for ex-felons, ending the disenfranchisement for thousands of Marylanders that have paid their dues to society already. Secondly, Maryland repealed the state’s “mandatory minimum” laws when it comes to low-level, non-violent drug offenses that caused our jails to swell and prevented addicts from getting health treatment. Lastly, Maryland is becoming a very cannabis-friendly state lately, enacting medical cannabis and decriminalizing up to 10 grams of cannabis on a person.
The 3rd law that was enacted decriminalizes cannabis paraphernalia such as bongs and pipes that have cannabis residue. Many people are predicting Maryland will be the next state to completely end the Prohibition on cannabis and enact recreational cannabis in the very near future.
