May 5, 2014 - Some members of the Canadian band Lemon Bucket Orkestra have teamed up with local musicians from Kiev and are touring Europe and singing about peace and justice, hoping to calm things down and avoid war. They are calling it the Lemonchiki Project, paying homage to the lemons activists had to put in their mouths to deal with the Berkut tear-gassing them as they tried to take control of their country away from the Putin puppets who were destroying their country. Read their story and find out more of this exciting project at the Lemonchiki Project website.
NOV 13, 2013 - We have been honoring veterans all this week since Monday was Veterans Day, and one way we can "support the troops" is to support legal medical marijuana in your state for one possible treatment for veterans with PTSD. There have been many studies showing medical marijuana can be used as a treatment in a wide variety of health issues, and PTSD is one of them. Dr. Sue Sisley in a YouTube video by MAPS below explains the evidence showing medical marijuana can be beneficial in treating PTSD. One organization, Veterans for Medical Cannabis Access, is working hard at getting veterans access to medical marijuana.
Earlier this year, Maine's state government approved PTSD to be on the list of conditions patients can get medical marijuana prescriptions for and Governor Paul LePage quietly signed it into law. In an article on CannabisNews.org, retired Marine Corps Sgt. Ryan Begin, who lost part of his arm in an IED explosion and suffers from PTSD, talks about using medical marijuana to treat his pain and PTSD saying, "It balances me. Instead of being on a roller coaster, you're more even keeled. You don't get too far up, and you don't get too far down." Maine joins California, Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, and New Mexico that allow vets to use medical marijuana to treat their PTSD, which can consist of flashbacks and anxiety attacks. JTMP urges our supporters to contact your state and local officials, and tell them you support the troops, and you support medical marijuana for use in treatment of PTSD by veterans. NOV 11, 2013 - Hate the war, love the soldier. Happy Veterans Day to all the vets out there. We must remember to support the vets once they get back. Many suffer from injuries both physical and mental from the horrors of war. One place we can all help is donating to the Wounded Warrior Project, which helps out vets with devastating injuries; which happen more these days with better and quicker battlefield medical care. To help out, check out their website at WoundedWarriorProject.org. It would be nice of these politicians that supposedly "support the troops" would shift funding from drones into taking care of our vets. (photo credit: US Archives)
OCT 9, 2013 - One of JTMP's favorite activist musicians is David Rovics, who is a huge part of Occupy DC, and he has penned another great activist song about the Teabaggers shutting down the government. It's called "Government Shutdown", and it points out the total hypocrisy of how the Teabaggers want to shutdown parts of the government, and decrease spending...but of course we won't touch the corporate welfare subsidies or cut military spending one thin dime. He asks the great question. "Why don't we shut down the military too?" Check out David's new song in his YouTube video below.
AUG 27, 2013 - Despite the massive unrest currently in Egypt, the Hayy Music Festival that features women Arab singers, poets, puppeteers and more, was held on July 18 through August 2, 2013 by Al-Mawred Al-Thaqafy (Cultural Resource); a Cairo-based non-profit encouraging diversity and cultural exchange between Arab countries. This year's festival featured women singers from many different countries; such as Morocco, Algeria, Iran, Tunisia, Syria, Spain and more. They sang Palestinian folk songs, classical Arab music and even some pop and rock. Read about all these exciting women singers and the festival on Ahram.org here, and also check out the Al-Mawred's website here. Watch this great music video and awesome song "You" from one of the performers, Moroccan Khansa Batma " below with Unia. Watch the video all the way to the end! Great ending!
