Jeff Mangum, whose band Neutral Milk Hotel soared to notoriety with his album "In an Aeroplane Over the Sea" back in 1988, made a surprise visit and played an impromptu concert for the Occupy Wall Street protesters in Zuccotti Park. He later remarked, “Of course I support [Occupy Wall Street]. This is just something small I can do.”
Rapper Kanye West visited Occupy Wall Street yesterday with music mogul Russell Simmons, in a show of solidarity against corporate greed. Russell Simmons has been very involved with the crowd at Zuccotti Park in Lower Manhattan for the past couple of weeks, even meditating with the crowd. Many think that Russell urged Kanye to come to the park with him and see it firsthand, no word yet on whether he may write a song in support of it later down the road, we will see.
Afterwards, Russell "Tweeted" positively about the visit:

Marlon Bishop on WNYC.org has a great post out on the role that music is playing in the Occupy Wall Street movement, from drums to guitars. The troubadours talk of how music gets people in the mood and motivates them to create social change. “It gets people motivated, it gets people spiritually in the mood, it keep us strong,” said one protester taking part in the drum circle.
Avaaz, which means "voice" in several European, Middle-Eastern and Asian languages, has a goal of closing the gap between "the world we have and the world most people everywhere want". Avaaz aims to empower millions of diverse individuals around issues such as poverty, environmental issues and more. They have currently launched an online petition in solidarity with the Wall Street occupiers, and it reads:
"We stand with you in this struggle for real democracy. Together we can end the capture and corruption of our governments by corporate and wealthy elites, and hold our politicians accountable to serve the public interest. We are united - the time for change has come!"
