JAN 27, 2014 - Amnesty International's "Bringing Human Rights Home" benefit concert will be live streamed on the Internet worldwide on February 5th, and to gear up for it, Amnesty International volunteer Kristin Hulaas Sunde wrote a blog on Amnesty's "Livewire" site, where she reminisces about how she was awakened and her activism for social justice really started back in 1988 at the Human Rights Now! concert in Philadelphia. Pete Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Tracy Chapman and more all played to a huge throng of 75,000 activists. Read Kristin's cool blog on LivewireAmnesty.org here, and make sure you catch the Bringing Human Rights Home concert on February 5th next month. The concert will feature the Flaming Lips, Tegan and Sara, Lauryn Hill, Cold War Kids, and others; and the recently freed members of Pussy Riot, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina, will be there also. MAY 31, 2013 - Aerosmith, who was blogged about recently by JTMP for showing support for the whale-protecting organization Sea Shepherd, headlined the "Boston Strong" benefit concert to raise money for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. Along with the bad boys from Boston were the Dropkick Murphys, New Kids on the Block, and one of my all-time favorite bands, Boston. Boston opened up with "More Than a Feeling" and the crowd went wild. A bombing victim, Jeff Bauman, who lost both his legs in the tragedy was there, and was flashed on the big projection screen shown smiling and "Boston Strong". Aerosmith played their classics like "Walk this Way" and "Sweet Emotion", and the Dropkick Murphys played 3 songs from their new EP "Rose Tattoo" (featuring Bruce Springsteen) that also benefits the Boston Marathon bombing victims. The J. Geils Band, James Taylor, Carole King, Jason Aldean, Boyz 2 Men and others also performed and sang. The concert proceeds will go to One Fund Boston.

(Unfortunately, due to high demand, the live stream server crashed and Boston was not aired, so this is the best quality available)
FEB 17, 2013 - China has tightened its rules on concerts after Elton John dedicated his Beijing concert to Chinese activist Ai Weiwei. Elton John met with Ai Weiwei before the show and Tweeted, "I super like him!". But Chinese officials wrote an Op Ed on Global Times condemning him saying, "John's action will also make the relevant agencies further hesitate in future when they invite foreign artists. John himself is a senior entertainment figure, but has raised difficulties for future arts exchanges between China and other countries."

JAN 21, 2013 - Yesterday, the day before the Presidential Inauguration, Sasha and Malia Obama rocked out with kids from military families, Katy Perry and Usher. The first lady Michelle Obama has been working hard to make sure the military families get the thanks and help they need and deserve. The concert was beamed to military bases around the country so military kids across the America could take part. Read more on Huff Po here.
