Harry S. Truman First Enrollee in Historical Government Program July 30, 2015 – 50 years ago today, President Lyndon Johnson travelled to Independence, Missouri to visit a man he thought was alone and forgotten, a man who decades ago pushed for the government to intervene in a huge problem in the United States…indigent and elderly […]

OCT 17, 2013 – As I was walking my dog this morning on the federal park land of the C&O Canal Towpath, me and several neighbors spotted a US Park Service truck pull up ad 2 feral Park Service workers got out. We welcomed them back, and they responded they had a lot of backed-up work they had to do. We were very welcome to see our vital government workers, in this case assuring we have safe outdoors to take walks and enjoy nature, back at work providing us the many needed services we rely on everyday. The old saying goes, "You don't know what you've got till it's gone" applies. The Teabaggers, by shutting down the government, made us appreciate the myriad of governmental services all of us Americans have created with our government that sustains a comfortable level of lifestyle. From an elderly retiree getting their social security check, the soldier receiving their pay, to young kids getting help with Headstart, our governmental services are vital and important. JTMP strongly urges our supporters to watch out for conservatives and conservative organizations. They are coming after our Social Security, Medicare and al the other governmental institutions built by progressives over the years. Make sure you vote every time even in primaries, and pay attention to local elections as well as federal elections. Make sure you tell your government workers and your government representatives: Welcome back! Thank you for your services, and please do all you can to protect and secure entitlement programs. Bolster them up, inject new funding, do means testing; do whatever it takes to SAVE our entitlement programs, not get rid of them like certain conservative organizations propose. REPUBLICANS FURIOUS (OF COURSE)
SEP 27, 2013 – JTMP believes health care is a human right and a civil right, and we support steps like Obamacare that takes us toward a better system. We actually support Medicare For All, but hopefully this is a step towards a more universal and fairer system in doling out health care to our citizens. Turns out the Affordable Heath Care Act has an added benefit on top of getting people more access to our health care system, it automatically registers one to vote, and that is totally pissing off conservatives. Why are they always angry when our government tries to make it easier to vote? They fought the Motor Voter Bill, they hate early voting, etc. Addiciting Info has a great article on it, and how the roll out of Obamacare may crush their efforts of voter suppression at the state level they have been engaged in recently. Read more on AddictingInfo.org here. If you want to start your Obamacare registration check out HealthCare.gov, and register to vote…AND VOTE! Especially for midterms and the local and state level elections. VOTE EVERY TIME, EVERY ELECTION!
OCT 19, 2012 – OMB Watch, an organization dedicated to promoting effective government spending and "A just and democratic society in which every individual can thrive.", has released a GREAT video showing the importance and critical roles that government play in our lives and help businesses and communities thrive.
The government is NOT the problem, it can provide roads and infrastructure to move goods to the market, and it can provide businesses with educated and trained workers. The public funding for roads, police, firemen, schools and more is under fire more and more from conservatives, and we here at JTMP want to say that we support INCREASING the funding for social services and infrastructure, and establishing responsible and fair revenue intake to fund this great country and lead it into prosperity. Please watch the video below to see how important government plays a role in our lives, and how it helps businesses operate and thrive; and check out the OMB Watch website here.
MAR 12, 2012 – Punk music activist band Anti-Flag, who have been interviewed and featured on the Justice Through Music's website and "Rock Your Rights" DVDs over the years, has teamed up with Amnesty International and released a powerful new music video called "This is the New Sound" speaking out against the NDAA, or National Defense Authorization Act. The act gives the President power to detain and hold American citizens indefinitely without a charge or a trial.
The song is from their upcoming album "The General Strike" to be released on March 20th. Anti-Flag has been one of the most political musical activist bands ever, with lyrics such as "You gotta Die for Your Government, That's shit!". Drummer Pat Thetic is an outspoken critic of the use of depleted uranium by US, UK, Israeli and other militaries in their bullets. They have teamed up and supported PETA, Greenpeace, and Democracy Now! and numerous causes over the years.
Justice Through Music has teamed up with hundreds of non-profit organizations and thousands of concerned America citizens in a coalition to end corporate personhood and overturn the Citizens United Ruling, called Move To Amend. We feel that big corporate money is poisoning our elections and democratic process, and preventing the voice of the American people from being heard by their elected representatives.
We strongly feel that the ruling in the Citizens United vs. the Federal Election Commission that ruled corporations are persons and entitled by the Constitution to buy our elections and run our government is un-democratic, misguided and wrong and needs to be overturned by a Constitutional amendment by Congress. As we say on the petition website, "We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Citizens United, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights."
If you feel the same, and would like to sign the petition asking for Congress to act and overturn this horrible decision by the Supreme Court, and/or you are an organization that wants to join the coalition, please visit the Move To Amend website:
