President Obama Appoints Shakira to Key Education Post

Shakira has been appointed to the Presidents Advisory Council on Excellence in Hispanic Education along with Nancy Navarro and Kent P. Scribner. Shakira has been a tireless advocate and activist around the world for children's education recently. Shakira was born in Columbia, and always remembered the need for better education for children especially for those in poverty, and now uses her fame to really help a cause that is near and dear to her.
In a statement President Obama said, “I am grateful that these impressive individuals have chosen to dedicate their talents to serving the American people at this important time for our country. I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead."

Jobs Not Cuts Rally – Woman cries and pleads “Save our babies!” as Van Jones comforts her
JTMP attended the "Jobs Not Cuts!" Rally at the US Capitol, and got this clip of this woman asking help from Congress, saying, "Save our babies!".

Youth Speaks – 2011 Take Back the American Dream Conference – Slam Poetry
JTMP has been attending the TBAD 2011 Conference, and one of the events was a poetry slam performance by someone from “Youth Speaks”, an organization that “places young people in control of their intellectual and artistic development.” They are driven by the belief that “literacy is a need, not a want, and that literacy comes in various forms.” They want young people to find, nurture, and use their spoken voice performance to be creators of social change.
The performance consisted of 2 poems, both speaking out about young people, education, students, and funding for music and arts in education. The artist, Jamaal Hall, electrified the crowd with his awesome performance. For more information you can check out the Youth Speaks website. Watch the performance below.
JTMP Attends Take Back the American Dream Conference
JTMP is attending the 2011 Take Back the American Dream conference, a gathering of thousands of progressives to energize and mobilize the progressive movement. There will be speeches to fire everyone up and inform, and breakout sessions to strategize and plan on how to best move the progressive platform forward. Check out some pics on our JTMP Facebook site.
The conference will conclude with a huge rally on Capitol Hill calling for "Jobs not Cuts", and PDA, Progressive Democrats of America, will be there calling to "Tax Wall Street and Heal America". We will post footage of the conference daily so check back.
