Beyonce Signs and Links to MoveOn.org Petition Calling for Federal Civil Rights Charges Against George Zimmerman

July 26, 2013 – There has been some confusion lately on who is and who is not joining Stevie Wonder's boycott of Florida calling for the repeal of "Stand Your Ground Laws"; and part of it why I think some confusion is out there is because many musicians and artists have spoken out in favor of repealing the "Stand Your Ground" laws, and have been publicly speaking out in support of Trayvon's parents and #Justice4Trayvon. Jay-Z has spoke out in favor of repealing the law, and now 5 days ago Beyonce put up a Trayvon Martin tribute page on her website asking everyone to #ActNow4Trayvon, and signing her name and linking to a MoveOn.org petition calling for Eric Holder and the US Department of Justice to file Federal civil rights charges against George Zimmerman who believe Trayvon Martin's civil rights were violated; there are many of us who think they were and JTMP is one of them. Check out Beyonce's Trayvon Martin Tribute Page here, where you can sign the MoveOn.org petition also. So, although many artists have come out in droves of the support of repealing the "Stand Your Ground" laws, they will never be any widespread boycott of Florida by musicians and artists; too many have residences there and too much money being handed around. Having civil rights charges filed against George Zimmerman would be a sweet second prize though. Sign the MoveOn.org petition here.

Organic Consumer Market starts petition to “Dump Monsanto’s Rider”

DEC 4, 2012 – A non-profit organization called Organic Consumers Market is starting a petition to "Dump the Monsanto Rider", which is a "rider" connected to a bill currently in Congress. This rider would allow Monsanto to plant genetically engineered "Frankenfood" crops even when courts rule that the US Department of Agriculture has approved them illegally. The bill is HR 5973, and the rider is in Section 733. Contact your federal representative and tell them to "Dump the Monsanto Rider" and protect the right of the small farmer and consumer to eat non-genitcally engineered crops. Read more and sign the petition on the Organic Consumer Market website here, and learn how to contact your representative; they even have a sample letter ready for you. Also, you can find your federal representative and how to contact them here. Write a quick letter, they are better than a phone call or email.

Watch the activist music video by Peaches below where in Berlin "about 400 people joined Peaches on the street to show support for the members of Russian conceptual art punk activist band, Pussy Riot, 3 of which are on trial for performing a "punk prayer" against President Vladimir Putin."

They also add that "people from all over the world have contributed their own mini-protest videos calling for the release of Pussy Riot". After watching the video please read the press release below.  (photo credit: CC/Peaches)

Man arrested at 4/20 party is forgotten in cell for 5 days

MAY 8, 2012 – The war on poverty, known to most Americans as the "war on drugs", almost killed a young law student at UC San Diego, when he was arrested by police and put handcuffed in a windowless cell and forgotten for 5 days, with no food or water. On April 20, 2012 Daniel Chong went to one of the many annual 4/20 counterculture parties across America, but was swept up in a police raid the next morning and forgotten about when he was put into a holding cell. Daniel said later, "I didn't care if I lived or died, I was completely insane.", and even ate one of his eyeglass lenses to try and commit suicide. JTMP supports the ending of the insane war on drugs, and urges our supporters to sign the petition over at Just Say Now calling for the Senate Judiciary Committee to investigate the DEA's abuse of Daniel Chong. President Obama and the White House have set up on their website where Americans can directly petition the President and give us a "voice in our government", and an American citizen has started a petition to legalize marijuana on it, and you can check it out here.
