"Paradise/Keystone Pipeline" by the Keystone Pipeline Kops Calls for Massive Protest and Petition Against Keystone XL Pipeline sticky icon

APR 2013 - To protest the Keystone XL Pipeline and Fracking, the Keystone Pipeline Kops have come together to say "Halt!" to the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline, and recorded John Prine's great classic, "Paradise", with the lyrics updated for the times. We wanted the song to connect the trips to the outdoors we had as a child, and how we came to love the outdoors and become environmental activists to protect the rivers and woodlands we love so much. Because of the inevitable oil spills and the loss of wildlife and woodlands, as well as our air and water being poisoned, this song calls for a massive protest against the Keystone XL Pipeline, against the Tar Sands development, and against the dirty practice of Fracking. Check out the song below, and sign the JTMP petition on Change.org calling on President Obama to stop the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline. We are looking for 100,000 signatures, which we will then present to the White House, so please sign today! Also, start or join a discussion on this issue at our JTMP Facebook Site: www.Facebook.com/JusticeThroughMusic.

Latest Activist Music Video: "Coal Miner's Family" by Op-Critical and Justice Through Music Project sticky icon

Justice Through Music Project and Op-Critical have released another musical activist video, this one makes a statement on the Upper Big Branch Mine disaster, and the failure of Massey Energy to protect those coal workers. In a statement Op-Critical said, "Coal Miners Family is dedicated to all those who work in the mines and to all those families who have lost loved ones in the mines.  The song and video were inspired by the senseless loss of life at the 2010 Upper Big Branch mine disaster.  Massey Energy’s failure to follow safety regulations was the direct cause of that nightmare.  We, as Americans, need to make sure that those responsible are held accountable and that similar disasters never happen in the future." Man Tells of Wife Cured by Medical Cannabis

APR 16, 2014 - While attending the National Medical Cannabis Unity Conference 2014, JTMP interviewed Bear, a man whose wife was saved and who was cured by medical cannabis after modern medical science failed. Watch the moving video below. If this is not reason enough to take marijuana off Schedule 1, I don't know what is.

Video Series: History of Botanical Medicines - National Medical Cannabis Unity Conference 2014 Panel

APR 16, 2014 - I have finished the video series of the interesting panel at the National Medical Cannabis Unity Conference 2014 titled, "The History of Botanical Medicines". It came out to 4 videos, and was very informative. This is how we need to think medical cannabis is: a botanical medicine. Check out our JTMP YouTube Channel to see all the videos.

Freedom for Cigarettes but No Freedom for Medical Cannabis? - Veteran Discusses His Use of Medical Cannabis to Treat PTSD

APR 8, 2014 - JTMP attended the National Medical Cannabis Unity Conference 2014 here in DC sponsored by Americans for Safe Access and a few others to bring together medical cannabis patients, activists, doctors, botanical experts, food and drug law advocates, medical cannabis business industry representatives, and others to form a plan on how we move forward to expand the rights of patients nationwide who will benefit from medical cannabis treatment. Although things are moving "fast", Maryland passed a Medical Cannabis Program Bill yesterday while the conference was happening, there are still a lot of battles to fight. 48 of the 50 states (and DC, territories, etc.) remain in the insane 1920's prohibitionist mode and deny millions of patients the medicine they need to ease their suffering, and in some cases HEAL. JTMP will have a video of a man whose wife was HEALED by medical cannabis, and he has the lab test results to prove it, so stand by for that also. This is an exciting week.

I haven't yet finished the Unity Conference 2014 video series I am going to be releasing this week of panels discussing botanical medicines, cannabinoids and other exciting topics at the conference (stand by!); but we did an interview with TJ Thompson, a Navy vet who uses medical cannabis to treat his PTSD, and it was so moving I just had to get it out. TJ lives in Virginia, and even though a recent Quinnipiac Poll shows 84% of Virginians want this vet who has served his country to have his medicine available to him, many elected officials continue to resist enacting a medical cannabis program. Which brings me to the topic of my blog. Last week, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel raised the hackles of many by suggesting (gasp!) that the US government not sell poison (cigarettes) through the PX and commissaries on US military bases. (I am an army brat so I know what those are, but for those who don't know they are basically the grocery and drug store on base) Secretary Hagel pointed out that tobacco related illnesses cost the military well over a billion dollars a year in health care costs to treat. So fiscal conservatives who hate wasteful government spending rallied behind him right? Well, not quite. People started screaming that the "freedom for the soldier to buy cigarettes is being infringed!" and foam came out of their mouth. When I saw how medical cannabis is helping this vet TJ below treat his PTSD I thought: Will these same people fight for this and other vets, active duty, and even regular citizens the freedom to have safe and easy access to legal medical cannabis, as hard as they fight for that soldier or vet to have poison (cigarettes)? (Spoiler: They won't) What are your thoughts? Start up a discussion on our JTMP Facebook Page! Watch our interview of TJ Thompson below.

ASA Kicks Off 2014 National Medical Cannabis Unity Conference

APR 5, 2014 - Americans For Safe Access, together with medical marijuana patients and activists, cannabis industry representatives, and experts kicked off the 2014 National Medical Cannabis Unity Conference in Washington, D.C. today, and JTMP attended. From the feel of the crowd and the energy, medical cannabis advocacy may have some problems and issues to work out, but I can tell you that the movement has a tremendous amount of energy and momentum right now. Things are happening fast, and there was a lot of information to take in just the first day. There were people from Tennessee, California, South Carolina, everywhere. There were panels and meetings, and there will be a citizen lobbying day on Capitol Hill on Monday to cap it all off. [Click Read More for rest of blog...]

Australian Rapper Aisha Fukushima Wants to Bring Politics Back to Rap

APR 3, 2014 - GreenLeft.org has a cool interview up about Australian rapper Aisha Fukushima, and it asks her about her new song, "RAPtivism" and how the song declares that she is "bringing politics back to rap". Aisha told GreenLeft, "For me, the term "bringing politics back to rap" illuminates that on one level, a lot of the major distribution of hip-hop music has edited out music that empowers people and encourages them to think critically. I think part of the role as rap activist is not necessarily having all the answers or even telling people what to think, but to raise thoughtful questions that can help further our collective journey towards social change." We at JTMP couldn't have put it more eloquently. Read more of the interview of Aisha on GreenLeft.org.au here. Listen to RAPtivism from Aisha below.

Primaries and Early Voting Are Important!

MAR 30, 2014 - DC is currently holding its primary elections, and I headed out yesterday and "early voted". We in DC are very progressive and do not put up any voter suppression hurdles. In fact, DC is very accommodating to its citizens when it comes to early voting, same-day voter registration, and making sure DC citizens who may not have an ID for some reason or another, can use an alternative form of ID like a utility bill or something. We have accessibility vans picking up our disabled citizens and whisking them to the polls. In other words, in DC we make it easier to vote, NOT harder. My experience was great. No lines, and I was in and out in 5 minutes. I was free to do my other errands and carry on not worrying about missinga primary or special election which I do sometimes if it is "only on one day". That is why early voting is important, it more accurately represents more of the electorate, because more people vote.

Another reason why this is significant is this is a local election. Sometimes people get caught up only in the Presidential elections, and ignore the midterms, primaries and local elections. That is a mistake. Who sits on your city council determines if you can get your medical marijuana or not. Your state senators and representatives determine whether your gay friend can marry his lover. JTMP urges our supporters to not only register and vote, but vote in each and every election. Vote in the general elections, the primaries, the special elections, get educated on ballot initiatives and other things on the ballot. Most states send out a "voter's guide" that explains how, where and when to vote; and even contains sample ballots so you can be prepared and be informed when you arrive at the polls. JTMP urges our supporters to pay attention to elections and make sure you have easy and early voting in your state.
