JUSTICE THROUGH MUSIC ROCKS
Justice Through Music Project ("JTM") is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that
uses famous musicians and bands to organize, educate and activate young people about
the importance of civil rights, human rights and voting. We use every means of media and
communication to address these issues, including social media and networking, concerts,
videos, magazines, newspapers, radio, Internet, DVDs, and PSAs. We also register people
to vote using cutting edge technology in order to effect change through the ballot box.
We support the aspirations of youth worldwide to be free to express themselves, and we
take a stand against oppressive regimes that suppress freedom and deprive citizens of basic
human rights.
Nationally known entertainment attorney Jeff Cohen and other computer savvy activists
founded JTMP in 2003 in order to fill a particular need in today's world - connecting with
and giving a voice to youth by speaking a language they understand, music and freedom of
expression. Music plays a significant role in free and democratic societies by providing
musicians with the means to share their thoughts and values with others, and providing
others with a unique visual and aural means to learn about issues and participate in
democratic process. Musicians tend to be the canaries in the coal mine by being the first
to speak out about injustices. Our goal is to help eliminate political and social apathy and
compliment the terrific work being done by other civil liberties, human rights and activist
organizations. Our mission is to use music as a platform to focus attention on privacy rights,
due process, equality, women's issues, fairness, freedom of expression, human rights, peace and
voting. JTMP firmly believes that the full power of these rights can only be achieved through the
rule of law and the democratic process.
