Confederate Battle Flags and Emblems Belong in a Museum
June 24, 2015 – JTMP joins the widespread calls to remove all Confederate battle flags, CSA national flags, CSA battle flag designs in state flags or license plates, statues or busts “honoring” CSA officers and politicians, and any emblem or “memorial” to the treasonous and failed nation, the Confederate States of America from ALL public grounds, both state and federal. We call for the re-naming of any streets that are so-called “honoring” any CSA military officers or CSA government officials to be changed. It is finally time to “de-Dixiefie” the South, and put this racist symbol in the dustbin of shameful history. We need healing and diversity, not hatred and divisiveness. The CSA WAS founded on racism and slavery, and the CSA rebelled against the USA and took up arms and killed US soldiers under battle flags such as the Army of Northern Virginia Battle flag. The Confederate battle or national flag is an insult to the US soldiers who fought for America and died in the Civil War, and their descendants. The Confederate battle flag being used to “honor” Confederate soldiers after the Civil War is a MYTH created by Civil War apologists and fauxpressionists.
Strom Thurmond and the racist Dixiecrats started to use the “CSA battle flag” in 1948 as a symbol to rally around and fight segregation in the South. Then, southern states started to incorporate the CSA battle flag design into their state flag as a way to flip the middle finger to the federal government that was making them segregate public schools. It is only recently that Southerners started placing the Confederate battle flag at Confederate soldier’s tombstones. This symbol was founded on racism, it was used as a symbol of racism during the 1950s, and has easily morphed into a flag for white supremacists in the present day. This racist symbol has NOT been “distorted from it’s true meaning”. The Confederate battle flag motivated Dylann Roof in exactly the way it was designed to do and has been used for in the past.
